Park “Ravne 2” has become richer for another installation. It is about chess, a game of wisdom, in which two players compete in strategy, intelligence and tactics.
Early versions of chess were played two thousand years ago in Uzbekistan, India and Persia. A thousand years ago, the Croatian ruler Stjepan Drzislav in the captivity of Venice, thanks to a 3:0 chess victory over the Doge of Venice, saved his head and gained several Adriatic islands. It is not surprising that he put chess pieces in his coat of arms (chess board).
In the last few decades, the Sarajevo Chess Club “Bosna” has become one of the most trophy-winning clubs in Europe. At one time, the world’s best player, Garry Kasparov, defended the colors of the Chess Club “Bosna” during the 1990s. The popularity of chess is great in our region, and now visitors to the park “Ravne 2” have the opportunity to play this game outdoors with large pieces.
This installation was created as a result of the joint work of the “Archaeological Park: Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun” Foundation, the “Bosanske piramide” d.o.o. company and Foundation volunteers from several countries (Finland, Croatia, Turkey, France and B&H). It is located in the central part of the park between the spiral botanical garden and the Geopuncture circle, next to the stream itself.
Chess will be able to be played on nice days throughout the year.
