Visoko, city of rich history that goes far back into the past, is located in the central part of Bosnia and Herzegovina  at the mouth of the rivers Fojnica and  Bosna. The traces of life in the area of the Visoko’s valley date back to 4000 BC, but the most important historical moments for this area happened during  the period of Middle Ages. The medevial city at that time was called Visoki, located at the top of the hill Visočica.

Visoko begins to develop with the arrival of Ottomans and his founder was  Ajas – bey. It’s was always a place of different cultures and civilizations since early Stone Age and that’s the reason why Visoko have a long tradition, rich culture and historical heritage. As a center of the medevial Bosnian state, Visoko was crowned place of the Bosnian kings and also the administrative center of Visoko nahia.

Today, Visoko is modern city with tendency of economic and development based on very good geographic position and nature resources. Even today, it is really recognizable city because of handcrafts, trade and cultural and historical heritage.

Around the valley there are high mountains of central Bosnia – Ozren, Vranica and Zvijezda, and also a lot of hills with amazing nature.  The municipality’s space reaches relatively low altitude, from 399 to 1050m above sea level, while the area of ​​the town is located at an altitude of 422m.

Visoko has a significant number of tourist attractions. According to the hypothesis of Semir Osmanagić, in the area of Visoko, there are 5 pyramids which are supposed to be the work of advanced civilization before Ilirs. In 2006, arheological region of the pyramid attracted over 200 000 tourists.

The Bosnian Convertible Marka is the currency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.  The currency code for Convertible Marka is BAM, and the currency symbol is KM. The Mark is subdivided into 100 fenings. Bosnia use the fixed rate for Euro, 1.95583 BAM = 1 Euro. Currency change is possible in all banks in Visoko.
